What do I stand for?

I stand for real people and equal representation.

NOW...
at present, we need accurate
and timely communication
between City Hall and citizens.
That doesn't mean let us know what our City government is doing next week, or next year; sometime after the fact. It means promptly and, preferably before or, as we need it.
Example: Would it be useful to know what the snow plowing schedule is for priority and residential streets the day before a big storm, or at least the day of, so you know when you can get out to work or school or doctor's appointment? Would it be helpful to see it on the City website's first page, or at least in a local newspaper, or Facebook, sign up text alerts - or megaphone? Or, how about a real person from the City coming by on snowshoes to let folks know - "Hey, this was a big storm, it might be a while".

No community is immune to unexpected disruption of life and commerce. In fact, Oshkosh has experienced natural disasters, economic challenges and hazardous situations. The good news is we survived. But are we prepared for extreme weather events or loss of a major employer? These are just a few examples of the " it could happen" scenarios. We need to be prepared to not just survive and recover, but come out stronger and thrive. This means diversifying our economic and living conditions. Working towards a stronger community that has strong neighborhoods and strong jobs. This means assessing risks and not burying our heads in the sand, thinking that won't happen here. This means not just having plans, but practicing in the event of such disruptions. It's important for our children and grandchildren that we implement sustainable living conditions, which requires the resiliency to withstand major events and recover quickly. Respect and be responsible for our environment and resources to keep everyone safe. |
